Why?
I spend a lot of time traveling and photographing, and since I don’t work for National Geographic (yet :-), I use this webiste as an outlet for my creative work. As you’ll see browsing this site, I’ll share my travel stories and images with anyone that cares to look. You can reciprocate and leave a comment.
The site is named in honor of Kirin, a constant companion since adopting her in 1999. She is a red brindle Greyhound ex-racer. She was adopted through Greyhound Pets of America, Central Texas.
You can see writing at dogbowl: weblog edition and images at dogbowl: photo edition.
How?
I have a small arsenal of cameras available, but only a few see consistent use. Photos from the past few years were taken with a Contax G2. My new workhorse is the Nikon D70. But, even though digital is so very convenient, I still use a Leitz/Minolta CL mfg’d in the mid 70’s. The beauty of this camera lies in its small size, legendary Leica optics, and ability to work without a battery.
I also use a Moleskine notebook to capture the non-visual. It is 100% reliable and fits in my pocket. It also doubles as a good backup device for the ol’ cerebellum.
I do all my post-capture creative work on an Apple PowerBook G4 with a 23″ Cinema Display attached. Some of the software that helps me get my job done includes:
- Adobe Photoshop: The software is great, but the company annoys me. $150USD upgrades every year? Come on! Show me the love! Or at least lower the price.
- BibblePro: Raw image processing (and they live in Austin!).
- Clutter: Increases my iTunes enjoyment.
- Transit: To move my stuff from there to here.
- Taco Edit: An adequate HTML (and PHP, sorta) editor. Gets the job done, but I’m still waiting for something as good (and cheap) as Homesite was. Does Eclipse have a PHP plugin? Yes it does! Another to-do…
- And of course the always useful Terminal and Stickies.
What?
Thanks to the folks at WordPress who have created the software this site runs on and numerous others whose ideas I’ve repurposed.
